The crash of the Cubana de Aviacion Boeing 737 plane in Havana left more than 100 people dead. The plane crashed and exploded after takeoff.
Reporting from the BBC, Saturday (19/05/2018), three people survived the incident. They are in critical condition and hospitalized.
The plane carried as many as 104 passengers and six foreign aircraft crew.
"There were unfortunate aviation accidents, the news was not very promising, there seemed a lot of casualties," said Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
Previously, Cubana de Aviacion plane Boeing 737 crashed shortly after taking off from Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba. The plane will fly to the Holguin.
A witness said seeing a large fireball was followed by a high smoke cloud near the airport of the suburb of the capital Cuba.
Cuban national airlines have grounded some of its old planes for security reasons. Even so, the cause of the accident is unknown.
The fatal crash in Cuba last occurred in 2017 when a military plane crashed, killing eight passengers. In 2010, a commercial Aero Caribean plane crashed in central Cuba, killing 68 passengers and crew.
