US actor Steven Seagal was appointed as a special envoy of Russia.
Saturday (4/8), the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Seagal had the duty to take care of all matters relating to humanity between the US and Russia.
"Steven Seagal has been appointed as the special representative of the Russian foreign ministry for Russian-American humanitarian relations," the Russian foreign ministry wrote on its website.
"He is tasked with promoting further development in Russian-American relations in the humanitarian field, including the interaction in the fields of culture, art, cultural exchanges, youth, and others."
Seagal's appointment as a special envoy is not unusual. Because Seagal is known to 'know' with Russian President Vladimir Putin as a fellow fan of martial arts.
Not only that, after the annexation of Russia in Crimea in 2014, Seagal also called Putin 'one of the great world leaders that ever existed.'
Several times Seagal was also seen in Russia, one of them when he was present at the 2018 World Cup. Seagal was also seen when Putin was sworn in to his position last May.
It's just that the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Seagal would not be paid for that role.
Seagal's appointment decision came after ups and downs of Russian-American relations. This tidal relationship came after long conflicts in Syria and Ukraine and allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US Presidential elections which were eventually denied by Moscow.
