Tesla shares crash, after Elon Musk smoked weed on public live stream

Consumption of marijuana in public can be a blow to Elon Musk's professional career. The reason is, smoking marijuana might violate the Tesla Code of business ethics.

As reported by CNBC International, the incident began when CEO Tesla appeared on the "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast on Thursday (6/9/2018) night, when he discussed various topics including tweeting behavior, "neuralink" devices that can connect the brain to a computer, and so on. At that time Elon Musk was caught on camera talking while drinking whiskey and inhaling a mixture of tobacco and marijuana cigarettes.

This behavior may violate Tesla's code of ethics, which states that employees must follow safety rules and practices, not carry weapons while working, report (either openly or secretly) accidents or unsafe equipment, behavior (such as the use of illegal drugs) or conditions to the Human Resources manager or the Law Department.

Tesla employees must also report to work without being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol. The use of illegal drugs in the workplace will not be tolerated.

By smoking marijuana, it could be something that shows Musk violating his company policy. However, in an email to The Guardian, Musk said, "Our policy allows a number of THC [cannabis ingredients] during working hours, provided they are below the safety limit (such as minimum alcohol levels)."

This is not the first time there have been concerns about drug use. Tesla board members have also voiced concerns over the consumption of drugs by Musk. In particular, sources told the publication that Musk's use of Ambien's sleep aids might have a negative effect, causing him tweet in his Twitter.

As for this, the Tesla did not immediately respond to requests to comment, and this caused the company's shares to fall by 9% in trading on Friday (7/9/2018) morning and closed down 6%.

Initially, the stock opened at US $ 260.10. Then, the stock corrected around 7% after the first hour of trading and finally closed down 6%. This prolongs a painful week for the company making this electric car. At Friday's close, the company lost more than 11% of shares in trading a week.
