David Goodall 104 years, an Australian scientist who became the talk of people because he wanted to end his life, officially died on Thursday (05/10/2018). Sky News reported, the process of euthanasia David Goodall conducted at a clinic in Basel, Switzerland, at 12:30 local time. There was the sound of the 9th Symphony from the German legendary composer Ludwig van Beethoven. To the media crew ahead of the process of ending his life, Goodall said he wanted to hear the composition of classical music to accompany his death.
Sky News journalist, Michelle Clifford in her Twitter said when Goodall made a joke before undergoing the lethal injection process. "What else are we waiting for?" Goodall joked when his family was busy filling out an eyewitness form. "He told me that he was sure he had made the right decision in his life," Clifford said in her tweet.
Wednesday (9/5/2018), while wearing a dress marked "Ageing Disgracefully", the famous ecologist held a press conference. He said, there are still many things he still wanted to do, but he felt it was too late. "However, I am quite satisfied to let it," he said.
He claimed to start losing his eyesight for the past six years, and his body's ability has declined in the past two years. "I do not want to continue my life," he said. Goodall hopes his story will encourage people to be more liberal view about voluntary euthanasia.
"Everyone over middle age should have the right to end their lives as they wish," he added. Euthanasia was legalized in Switzerland in the 1940s, with records carried out by someone who was not interested in death at all. Goodall was born in London in 1914, and moved to Australia in 1948., he became a lecturer at the University of Melbourne.
