ISIS claims responsibility for Paris stabbing terror 1 dead, 4 injured


A man attacked pedestrians using a knife, in the heart of Paris, France, on Saturday (12/5). One victim was reportedly killed. The perpetrator was later shot dead by the police.

The attack was called in the Arrondissement or the second district of Paris. At that time, the location which is the center of opera performances, bars, and the ranks of the branded store is being filled with people who enjoy the weekend.

Reuters reported four people injured, two of them severely injured. As many as one victims died. The victims have now been taken to the hospital.

"Someone attacked five people in the second district of Paris, police immediately intervened, the man was killed," said Pierre Gaudin, a senior official in the Paris Prefecture. (Victims) others suffered serious injuries, died of the wounds," he added.

A police source confirms that the attacker using a knife has been taking down. The perpetrator was later shot dead by the police. However, they have not mentioned about the motive of the attack.

The media wing of ISIS claimed responsibility for the Paris attack in a statement published online.
The Amaq News Agency said "the person who executed the stabbing in Paris is a soldier of the Islamic State." The statement also said the assailant acted in response to calls to attack anti-ISIS coalition countries.

ISIS did not provide proof to substantiate the claim and no authorities or security sources have yet verified the authenticity of the ISIS claim.

French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb, in his citation, called the Paris attacker "cold-blooded". "The attackers have been neutralized by the police," he said, quoted by AFP.

French President Emmanuel Macron conveyed his condolences to the victims and declared " he salute  the courage of the police officers who have neutralized the terrorists".

"France once again pays with blood, but does not give up an inch to the enemies of freedom," he said, through his Twitter account.

The tourists and residents admitted surprised to see the incident. They were observed to gather behind the security line.

"I was on the cafe terrace, I heard three, four shots, it happened very quickly," said Gloria (47) an eyewitness

"Then the bartender told us to come inside. So I went outside to see what was going on, and then I saw a man fall down on the ground," he added.

A source in the judiciary said authorities are investigating options for handling the case by the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.

France was previously in high vigilance due to a series of attacks carried out or inspired by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the past three years. Hundreds of people were killed by it.
