North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the President of the United States Donald Trump reportedly will hold a meeting in Singapore. reported by South Korean media, Chosun and Yonhap (06/05/2018). In the past week, Panmunjom is believed to have a great chance of being the location of the Kim and Trump talks. Because Trump was so fascinated with the world's attention at the Inter-Korean Summit (Summit) held on 27 April.
However, South Korea's internal sources explain that Kim and Trump agreed to appoint Singapore as a third party. In addition, the meeting schedule was postponed from the end of May into the third week of June after the G7 meeting in Canada on 8-9 June. "However, there is a chance Panmunjom again considered considering Trump is so difficult to predict," reports from Chosun and Yonhap. The news of the meeting came after a summit between Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in and signed the Panmunjom Declaration. In the declaration, South Korea and North Korea agreed to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and bring an era of peace in the region. Meanwhile, China, North Korea's main ally, seeks to keep them from being marginalized during the negotiation process on the Korean Peninsula. On Saturday (5/5/2018), China Foreign Commission Director Yang Jiechi phoned US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the latest developments on the Korean Peninsula.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said, to Pompeo, affirming Beijing's position in the peninsula peace process. "We hope all parties to consider the two-way approach offered by China, and work hard for peace on the Korean Peninsula," Lu said.
