Ahead of a planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, US President Donald Trump warned him to disarm nuclear weapons or would end up like Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Gaddafi was overthrown and assassinated during the rise of the Arab Spring movement of 2011 and took place in a number of Middle Eastern countries. Gaddafi was killed in a US coalition operation that has long urged him to destroy mass destruction weapons
"If we all look at the model that happened to Gaddafi, it's obviously murder, the United States launched a mission to Libya to defeat it. Now, the model is likely to re-occur if the US and North Korea did not reach the agreement, but if we agree, I think Kim Jong-un will be very, very happy, "Trump said.

The statement was expressed by Trump in response to Kim Jong-un's threat of canceling a meeting with him as a form of protest against the combined military exercises still underway by the United States and South Korea on the Korean Peninsula.
Trump said Gaddafi models were made by his security adviser, John Bolton as an approach to dealing with North Korea at a summit between him and Kim next June 12 in Singapore.
However, Trump seems to have misinterpreted the suggestion. Because Bolton advocated the adoption of a "Libyan model" that refers to a nuclear disarmament treaty between the United States and Gaddafi in December 2003.

Reported by CNN, despite threatening tone, Trump insisted his assurances would not overthrow Kim Jong-un's regime if the isolated state agreed to disarm nuclear weapons.
"With this the deal, Kim Jong-un will remain there, he will still be able to lead his country and his country will become very rich," said Trump.
On that occasion, the 45th US President had assumed that the North's attitude change was influenced by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Meeting cancellation threat with Trump was called by North Korea shortly after Kim Jong-un met Xi for the second time in Beijing.
Though Trump doubts whether his encounter with Kim will continue, Trump insists that he is still willing to negotiate with Kim Jong-un. "We must be willing to do this. The deal requires two parties who want to do it together," Trump said.
