The sad news came from the world of international fashion. Famous designer Kate Spade died after hanging herself using a scarf.
Kate Spade was found lifeless by her household assistant at her apartment in New York City, United States, Tuesday (5/6/2018), at around 10:20 pm local time.
CNN reportedly, the alleged temporary cause of her death was suicide. The 55-year-old woman ended her life by hanging herself on a scarf.
Reportedly, New York Police (NYPD) found a letter from Kate Spade at the scene. However, the content of the letter is unknown. Currently, NYDP is still conducting further investigations.
Kate Spade's name is known for its row of colorful accessory collections and playful designs. Founded in 1993, Kate Spade's label continues to grow.
She was born Kate Brosnahan in Kansas City, Missouri, in December 1962, the daughter of a construction company owner and a housewife. She co-founded her company in 1993 with Andy Spade, the man who would become her business partner and husband. And over the next decade, they built it into an empire that also included shoes, luggage, stationery and other accessories.
Spade exited the company in 2007, after it was scooped up from the Neiman Marcus Group for $125 million by the company then known as Liz Claiborne Inc.
About 175 boutiques have been opened all over the world. Last year, however, she sold her label to its competitor, Coach, for $ 2.4 billion
Kate Spade New York issued a statement confirming the "incredibly sad news" of their eponymous founder's death.
"Although Kate has not been affiliated with the brand for more than a decade, she and her husband and creative partner, Andy, were the founders of our beloved brand," the statement said. "Kate will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with Andy and the entire Spade family at this time."
"We honor all the beauty she brought into this world," the company said in a tweet.
