Jorge Lorenzo Officially Join Repsol Honda in MotoGP 2019

Three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo officially joined Repsol Honda and will become teammate Marc Marquez until MotoGP 2020.

Certainty was revealed by the Honda Racing Corporation [HRC] through the company's official website, Wednesday (6/6). HRC believes that joining Lorenzo will make Repsol Honda even stronger in MotoGP.

"Honda Racing Corporation is pleased to announce the recruitment of three-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo, who will join the Repsol Honda Team for the next two years."

Lorenzo was recruited by Repsol Honda to replace Dani Pedrosa who was not renewed his contract. Pedrosa has been part of Honda since 2001 from the 125cc class.

Lorenzo himself once a season using Honda motorcycles in 2005 season in the 250cc class. At that time Lorenzo joined Fortuna Honda team but failed to achieve victory.

Having a duet Marquez-Lorenzo in the team clearly makes Honda on paper will be the strongest team in the MotoGP event. But this duo also has great friction potential as happened when Lorenzo with Valentino Rossi in Movistar Yamaha.

Honda has long expressed their desire to have two great drivers who can both be expected to win. Hopefully, Lorenzo will increase the chances, although the negative side of friction and competition in the team will be much hotter when compared to the Marquez-Pedrosa duet in it.

Honda's decision to recruit Lorenzo because it sees the current situation in the MotoGP world today. Honda saw Jorge Lorenzo not able to adapt well with Ducati and will be fired by the Italian manufacturer.

Lorenzo's weak bargaining power will certainly be tied to a contract value that is much lower than his pay as he joins Ducati in 2017, for Lorenzo now the most important is a comeback in competitive performance on the MotoGP track and is no longer a matter of contract value.

Lorenzo joined Repsol Honda after his contract was not extended by Ducati. This is the first time the Repsol Honda team has two MotoGP world champions in the team.
