Taycan, First Porsche Electric Sports Car Tesla Rival

Porsche Taycan became the name of the first Porsche electric sports car which will be sold in 2019. Originally Porsche Taycan named Mission E and it's Tesla rival

Porsche equip Taycan with two PSM (permanently activated synchronous motors) that produce 600 hp and deliver it accelerates from 0-100 kph in under 3.5 seconds and 0-200 kph in 12 seconds.

Taycan will also offer an unprecedented level of consistent power between electric vehicles: multiple consecutive launches will be possible without loss of performance, and the vehicle's maximum range will be over 300 miles (482 km) as per the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC ).

Porsche says that owner will be able to juice the Taycan up to 80 percent in just 15 minutes with an 800-volt charger; this works out to 250 miles if we take the 310-mile range at face value ... and if you can find an 800-volt charger.

"Our new electric sports car is strong and dependable; it’s a vehicle that can consistently cover long distances and that epitomizes freedom," Oliver Blume, chairman of Porsche AG’s executive board said this year.

Since the Taycan will be an EV, its powertrain won't really generate a sound aside from tire and wind noise. But it will have some sort of artificially generated noise like many other EVs, as Porsche has hinted, that will be audible to those outside. We won't keep our fingers crossed in hopes of hearing a flat-six howl; the current repertoire of EV sounds leans toward electric hums that sound like "Star Trek: The Original Series" props.

To produce Taycan, a new paint shop, a conveyor bridge to transport the body of a painted car and drive unit to the final assembly area, is being built at the Porsche plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. With the production of Taycan will employ 1200 workers in Zuffenhausen.

Taycan can be interpreted as "lively young horse" which refers to the heart of the Porsche emblem - horse jump since 1952.

Porsche will invest € 6 billion in 2022 to develop electromobility, two times larger than the initial plan of the Company. Of the € 300 billion extra Porsche will take € 500 million to develop variants and Taycan derivatives; about € 1 billion for electrification and hybridization of products sold today; and around € 700 million for the development of new technologies, charging infrastructures and intelligent mobility.
