WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US Senate members criticized US President Donald Trump's statement after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin. They say, Trump has humbled himself in front of Putin.
"The damage caused by the naivete of President Trump, selfishness, false equivalence, and sympathy for the autocrats difficult to calculate. But it is clear that the summit in Helsinki is a tragic mistake," said the chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, John McCain.
"No previous president ever humbled himself even further in the face of a tyrant," he added, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Tuesday
Meanwhile, Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a Republican politician, said he was deeply disappointed by Trump's more believing statement from Putin than US intelligence, linked to alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"They must have interfered in our election. It's unquestionable and again, I just do not know what the President continues to deny that it happened. I get the feeling, in fact, that sometimes the president is more concerned about how another leader treats him, "Corker said.
Mark Warner, a member of the Senate intelligence committee of the Democratic Party, called Trump's comments a violation of his most important duties as president.
"For the President of the United States, to stand beside Vladimir Putin, who personally ordered one of the largest state-sponsored cyber attacks in our history, and side with Putin over American military and intelligence leaders is a violation of his duty to defend our country against the enemies, "He said.
